In Friday semifinals the 2 girls singles matches were played in the early afternoon, followed later by a girls doubles, and the 2 boys SF in night play. The setting has been stunning, with a sold out Stadium Court.

In the boys singles draw Ryan COZAD of USA ranked 104 eliminated qualifier Michael ANTONIUS also of USA and ranked 206 in straight sets 6-2, 6-4. After winning 5 matches plus a bye in the qualy, ANTONIUS was finally overmatched and COZAD, who is also still alive in doubles, goes on to the final. In the last Friday match, Yubel UBRI of USA but of Dominican descent outlasted fellow American Jack SATTERFIELD in straight sets by 7-5,6-1. SATTERFIELD seemed to have cramping problems and could not stay with the vibrant UBRI who outlasts opponents by returning every ball.

Who will be crowned champion on Saturday night? The reader is invited to make this determination considering the following data about each player’s road to the final.

In the girls singles draw the 2 finalists are Ava RODRIGUEZ of USA, unseeded and ranked 123, and Mariella THAMM from Germany, seeded 4 and ranked 71. Ava beat no. 1 seed Kaitlyn ROLLS fairly easily 6-4, 6-1 in the SF and has won all her 4 matches in straight sets. She has been proceeding quietly through the draw and is happy not attracting attention. But she cannot escape attention now as her debut on a packed Stadium Court awaits her on Saturday evening.  The other girls singles finalist Mariella THAMM has had a more difficult road to the final winning her last 2 matches in 3 sets, in the QF against her doubles partner Julieta PAREJA of a similar ranking, and in the SF besting the tough second seed Capucine JAUFFRET. Mariella is more used to the Copa attention, having won last night’s doubles match with PAREJA against Costa Rican Lucia GALLEGOS and USA’s Ireland O’BRIEN in front of a highly partisan crowd.

Who will take the 2025 Copa crown? The reader is invited to make this determination considering the following data about each player’s road to the final.

In the boys doubles both teams are unseeded. Americans Ryan COZAD and Gavin GOODE face off against the Danes Christian GRONFELDT and August POULSEN. Both teams are awesome and this is a true tossup. On the girls side both teams are seeded: the no. 3 duo of Alyssa JAMES of Jamaica and Capucine JAUFFRET of USA will confront the no. 2 seeds Julieta PAREJA of USA and Mariella THAMM of Germany. This is also a tossup affair but it is clear that THAMM will need a rest after Saturday as she plays in both the singles and doubles finals.
